57502 (2025). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Associate Minister of Education: Have any ECE centres been required to close playgrounds or sandpits due to suspected or confirmed asbestos contamination, and if so, how many?

Hon David Seymour: The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) has informed me that coloured sand products are not commonly used in sandpits and playgrounds. These products are typically used for indoor sensory play. The total number of Early Childhood Learning services that have closed play areas due to contaminated coloured sand cannot be provided, as services are not required to report this to the Ministry.
