Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many, if any, Business Initiated Transfers for overcrowding have been recorded in the Kāinga Ora Business Initiated Transfer register so far in 2025/26 and how many, if any, were recorded for overcrowding in each of the past five financial years?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that as at 30 November 2025, 57 Business Initiated Transfers are recorded for reason of ‘overcrowded’. The number for the previous five financial years are: • 2021 – 213 • 2022 – 173 • 2023 – 259 • 2024 – 423 • 2025 - 293
