56516 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister for the Environment: How many plants, broken down by species or type, have been hired by each entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, and what were the suppliers and locations for each installation, broken down by month?
Hon Penny Simmonds: Since 27 November 2023, the Ministry for the Environment has hired a total of 28 plants across two offices. In Christchurch, 13 plants were supplied by Oasis Plant Hire, and in Auckland, 15 plants were supplied by HirePlants Ltd. The Ministry does not monitor the species or type of plant, as these are selected by the supplier.
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has paid for the hire of 219 plants since May 2024 from Just Plants Limited for its Wellington office. Before moving offices in May 2024, the EPA paid for plants as part of a general services contract with Rentokil; however, it is unable to provide the number of plants supplied under that arrangement. As both contracts do not specify the species or type of plant, the EPA is unable to provide that information.
