56512 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Statistics: Will the Minister seek advice on the concerns raised by Te Kāhui Raraunga, that proposed changes to future census administration "will build in a bias that favours numerically dominant groups and will further invisibilise some Māori individuals, whānau, and communities, such as, takatāpui, and Māori with lived experience of disability' ?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Stats NZ is actively working with iwi Māori partners, including Te Kāhui Raraunga, and other priority communities, to progress census design, including tailored solutions such as targeted surveys, that help meet their data needs. Stats NZ is ensuring this happens by working to establish community-focussed collaborative design groups with a range of partners, data experts, and stakeholders, while recognising the need to understand intersecting perspectives.
