Written Question

56486 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: Further to Written Question 53267 (2025), other than information “provided by officials”, has he, his office, or his delegated staff received or been made aware of any estimates or reports since 1 June 2025 on homelessness or rough sleeping from any source, including councils, community organisations, outreach services, or frontline providers; if so, what were those estimates?
Hon Chris Bishop: My office receives a range of estimates, for example Kick Back’s State of the Street Report: Youth Homelessness Report and the Homelessness Briefing December 2025 from the National Homelessness Data Project. The Homelessness Insights report published on 16 December 2025 is the latest information provided to me regarding estimates of people experiencing homelessness by officials. The report consolidates a number of estimates and indicators from councils and non-government organisations. Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is collaborating with Stats NZ, councils and providers to improve access to timely, consistent homelessness data. While this work progresses, this report draws on multiple different types and sources of data to identify potential trends and drivers of these.
