56373 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Rail: What modelling has been undertaken to confirm that the ability to close off parts of the new ferries during off-peak sailings will lead to reductions in crew and maintenance costs?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: The design of the passenger areas is informed by KiwiRail’s commercial and operational requirements. Ferry Holdings is working closely with KiwiRail, the interior designers and Guangzhou Shipyard International to ensure the design of the new ferries meets KiwiRail’s operational needs.
