56329 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Food Safety: What evidence, if any, demonstrates that self-inspection by meat companies, without the supervision of the rover, will maintain or improve food safety standards compared to independent government inspections?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: The Ministry for Primary Industries has advised the proposed model requires an independent government inspector to be present at the final inspection point of each slaughter chain to undertake all food safety disposition determinations to ensure standards are met.
