Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Food Safety: Do you believe that unidentified wholesomeness issues would not impact the reputation of NZ meat products if the defects were found in exported products, and if so, what measures will be taken to monitor and mitigate reputational risk?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: New Zealand has a reputation for high food safety standards, including for animal products, that is internationally recognised by our overseas markets. The Ministry for Primary Industries is responsible for administering the requirements of the Animal Products Act 1999, which ensures animal products and materials are fit for intended purpose, and manages risk to human health and safeguards our official assurances to overseas markets.
