56154 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections
Written Question
Published date: 19 Sep 2024
56154 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What is the number of assaults by prisoners reported by prison officers, broken down by prison during August?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I expect any prisoner resorting to violence is held to account. This may be through internal misconduct charges, a change in security classification, or referral to Police for consideration of criminal prosecution.
I am advised that Corrections has worked alongside Police to use an online reporting tool to report assaults on staff. The reporting tool enables Corrections’ staff to report assaults directly to Police through an online form, allowing Police to take action in a consistent and transparent way.
The member’s question has been interpreted to relate to prisoner-on-prisoner and prisoner-on-staff assault incidents. I refer the member to the attached table for a breakdown of prisoner-on-prisoner and prisoner-on-staff assaults reported in the month of August 2024, broken down category of assault and prison.
