56115 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: How many, if any, children aged under 18 years in the care of Oranga Tamariki are being provided care by a caregiver with no assessment or provisional approval, as of 31 August 2024?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that as at 31 August 2024 there were 152 children and young people in 109 unapproved caregiver placements. I am further advised these cases are actively monitored with safety plans implemented while work is ongoing to resolve presenting issues in the assessment or identifying an alternate approved care arrangement. The majority of these would be whānau assessments.
