55968 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Associate Minister of Health: Does he agree with NZ Drug Foundation executive director Sarah Helm that "We've rightly spent millions of dollars to turn around our road and drowning tolls. We need to do the same for drug overdoses" and if so, what, if anything, will he do to address this?
Hon Matt Doocey: I am concerned that the number of fatal overdoses has continued to increase. Currently I have directed the Ministry of Health to undertake work on overdose prevention and preparedness planning. This work will help people and communities to understand overdose risks and the related supports and services available to prevent and reduce harm and inform any further actions in this area.
