55956 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Children: What (if any) are the minister's targets in respect of youth offending; do they include a reduction in the number of young people proceeded against by the police and a reduction in the number of young people reoffending?
Hon Karen Chhour: I am lead Minister for Government Target 3 to Reduce Child and Youth Offending. The Target for youth crime is a 15 percent reduction in the total number of children and young people (aged 10 to 17 years) with serious and persistent offending behaviour by December 2029.
The total number of children and young people with serious and persistent offending behaviour is defined as those committing three or more distinct offending events within 12 months, where at least one of the offences committed has a maximum penalty greater than or equal to seven years’ imprisonment.
