55681 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What resources, if any, are mobilised to Nelson Hospital's emergency department if a major incident is declared?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that all on-call teams in Nelson are notified of a major incident that requires more resource. The first activation is usually to the Duty Nurse Manager and the RMO Unit to mobilize nursing and junior medical staff resource. Rapid transfer of patients to wards and inpatient teams is also undertaken. If further escalation is required, the Operations Manager or Senior Manager On Call is notified and an Emergency Operations Centre may be activated. In a mass casualty situation, a Hato Hone St John Liaison will also be posted in ED.
