55648 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister of Health: Does the Minister agree with Hauora Taiwhenua Rural Health Network chair Fiona Bolden that it’s been over two years since the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022 was passed, and the system’s complexity and fragmentation have made it hard to see positive change for Māori, and that complexity is further reinforced when rurality is added to the mix; if not, why not?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I have made my expectations clear that the whole health system needs to maintain a strong focus on addressing unmet health need and improving Māori health outcomes. I intend to grow Māori capability and capacity to take on greater responsibilities and accountability to plan, guide, design and deliver health services that meet community needs. Iwi-Māori Partnership Boards will play a key role in driving these activities for whānau, including those in rural communities.
