55493 (2025). Celia Wade-Brown to the Minister of Conservation: What actions, if any, is the Minister considering to address the continued decline of Indigenous land cover in Aotearoa New Zealand?

Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation are delivering and supporting several programmes and initiatives that address, in different ways and at a range of scales, the decline in indigenous land cover extent and quality. The Department is doing this in collaboration with others including government departments, councils, research institutes, Treaty partners, and other interested parties. Examples of programmes and initiatives include implementation of the Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy, large-scale ecosystem restoration projects, and weed and pest animal management.
