55145 (2025). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What was the total amount of deferred maintenance for Fire and Emergency New Zealand vehicles in 2024/25?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised by Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire and Emergency) that at the end of the 2024/25 year, Fire and Emergency had a backlog of seven aerial appliances that had been operating for more than 10 years since their introduction or last major service. This included one appliance undergoing a major service at the time and two appliances that were less than six months past their target date. The estimated total cost of servicing these vehicles was approximately $1.1 million. Faults with appliances are either repaired immediately or, in the case of non-urgent minor defects, addressed at the next scheduled service.
