55057 (2025). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister of Conservation: If a tourist uses a rental car and was issued a breach notice at one of the three parking fee pilot sites of Punakaiki, Franz Josef and Aoraki Mt Cook, could there be implications for a rental company?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised that standard car rental agreements typically enable the rental business to directly charge a driver’s credit card for parking, toll roads, petrol top-up and other miscellaneous items. The Department of Conservation’s parking service provider Stellar has relationships and an agreed methodology with some rental providers to collect breach fees from their clients.
