54590 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Acting Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (Grocery Sector): What modelling, if any, has been conducted on whether fast-tracked supermarket approvals will reduce food prices for whānau, or simply entrench the existing duopoly?
Hon Nicola Willis: The aim of fast-tracking supermarkets is to make it easier for new supermarkets to open to compete with the major retailers. Increased competition will put downward pressure on prices and benefit consumers.
