54586 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Acting Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (Grocery Sector): What cost‑benefit analysis, if any, has been undertaken on the long‑term impacts of fast‑tracking supermarket developments on Māori communities and local economies?
Hon Nicola Willis: The aim of fast-tracking supermarkets is to make it easier for new supermarkets to open to compete with the major retailers. Increased competition will put downward pressure on prices and benefit consumers.
