54547 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What operational changes, if any, are being considered to increase remand prisoners’ access to services and programmes during the month of October?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that following the drawdown of tagged contingency funding to extend rehabilitative services to people on remand after 1 July 2025 as provided for under Budget 2024, and in line with the Coalition Government’s Q3 Action Plan, Corrections started delivery of offence-focused rehabilitation services to remand convicted prisoners in September 2025. Three prisons have begun delivering an offence-focused rehabilitation programme with remand convicted prisoners, and two of these sites have recruited an additional programme facilitator to focus on delivering medium-intensity programmes. One prison has begun delivery of a non-offence focused skills-based programme. Three cohorts of remand-convicted prisoners have completed the programme and further expansion will soon to be rolled out nationally to allow delivery to remand accused prisoners. I am further advised that Corrections has begun delivery at two sites of a psycho-educational service in remand that builds awareness of the impacts of alcohol and other drugs, with this service now being available at every prison with a remand population.
