54504 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the quarter to train another 285 medical students by 2027?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: Growing and retaining the domestic health workforce is a top priority for this Government. The Ministry of Health with the University of Waikato, and other agencies have progressed a business case on the proposal to establish a new medical school at the University of Waikato. The Ministry of Health has also commissioned an independent cost benefit analysis to give assurance of the feasibility of the proposal. The Government has also committed to further increasing government funded medical places for the universities of Auckland and Otago.
