54492 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Has the Minister read the NZ Herald reporting of 17 November 2025 that noted "Kiwis lost a record $3 billion to scams this year" which is a "30% increase from $2.3b last year"?

Hon Scott Simpson: Yes, and I also read the figures released by Payments NZ that cited a gross scam losses at $265 million. Scam losses are very difficult to quantify, but whichever figure is cited, it is far too much, and we have more work to do.
