54480 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: What, if anything, is the process for reviewing Oranga Tamariki's offers to abuse in care survivors' claims, including who undertakes the review?
Hon Karen Chhour: The process undertaken by Oranga Tamariki to review offers for abuse in care survivors’ claims, including how reviews are undertaken, is set out below. When a survivor lodges a claim, the claim is reviewed, and an eligibility assessment is completed to confirm the eligibility criteria are met. Once a claim is considered eligible; a written assessment is completed by the Oranga Tamariki Redress team using information from the survivor and relevant records. The assessment report is signed off and considered by a panel of tier three leaders. Once approved, the assessment is submitted to the Chief Social Worker for endorsement.
