54479 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister agree with financial crime specialist Gabby Lewis that the New Zealand Government should follow the regulatory approaches taken by Australia and the United Kingdom for banks, telecoms and social media companies regarding online scams?

Hon Scott Simpson: The approach we are taking in New Zealand is to bring those with an interest in preventing scams around the table to take action. I am also progressing a safe harbour based on a similar provision in Australian legislation, and I am open to considering whether further intervention is needed.
