54466 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the quarter to expand access to earn-as-you-learn programmes that help students train while they work in health, with an initial focus on paraprofessional, assistant and kaiāwhina roles?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the April to June 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand implemented a cadet programme in Tairāwhiti and Hawke's Bay, and completed planning for expanding the programme. I am further advised that during the quarter, funding was agreed for 50 kaiāwhina placements so they could complete supplementary training in mental health and addictions peer support.
