54448 (2025). Celia Wade-Brown to the Minister of Conservation: What actions, if any, is the Minister taking to help prevent the impacts on feral cats to Aotearoa’s native species?

Hon Tama Potaka: On 20 November 2025, I announced the inclusion of feral cats onto the Predator Free 2050 target species list to help protect our precious native wildlife. Including feral cats on the list will: • Incentivise further research and development into humane tools and toxins. • Assist public education about the impacts that feral cats have on native wildlife. • Ensure researchers, communities and initiatives targeting feral cats are eligible for funding for their projects.
