54337 (2024). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Space: Is it the Government's policy to establish more testing zones for space and advanced aviation in addition to the zone at Kaitorete, and if so, would that be consistent with the decision to refuse additional funding to support Kaitorete as an existing testing zone for space and advanced aviation?
Hon Judith Collins: The Government is ambitious for the possibilities for advanced aviation in New Zealand and its potential to grow the economy and boost productivity. This Government is working on options to ensure New Zealand has a regulatory regime that will help form the aviation system of the future, while maintaining high standards of safety. Testing zones are a feature and do play an important part in advanced aviation regulatory regimes not only in New Zealand but also in overseas jurisdictions. The issue of funding for the Tāwhaki Joint Venture at Kaitorete is still under discussion.
