54336 (2025). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What recommendations, if any, did Ministry for Primary Industry officials make regarding excluding Aotea from the closure of rock lobster fishing in the Hauraki Gulf?

Hon Shane Jones: My officials recommended the inner Hauraki Gulf be closed to rock lobster fishing, they did not provide a recommendation in the advice regarding including Aotea in the closure. My officials advised me they were working with tangata whenua and stakeholders on Aotea to consider finer scale management measures for rock lobster fishing for Aotea.
