54271 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister for the Environment: Does the Ministry keep data on emissions from soil carbon relating to land use changes?

Hon Penny Simmonds: I am advised the Ministry for the Environment generates estimates on emissions from soil carbon relating to land use changes. It does this as part of its reporting work for New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory. The emissions associated with changes in soil carbon are included in the emissions estimates for each of the land use categories covered in the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector. These estimates are covered in Chapter 6 of the Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
