54265 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister for the Environment: What estimates, if any, does the Ministry keep on carbon emissions from peatland?

Hon Penny Simmonds: I am advised the Ministry for the Environment's New Zealand's Greenhouse Gas Inventory reporting of the soil emissions for peatlands is based on the area of organic soils. In addition, emissions from areas subject to peat extraction are reported as part of the emissions for the Wetlands land use in New Zealand's Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
