Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Attorney-General: Has the Minister considered the Chief Ombudsman's submission to the Education and Workforce Committee, which expressed the "uncomfortable juxtaposition that the clause affirming the application of the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 to charter school sponsors directly precedes the clause in the Bill which would exclude the OIA, given the pivotal role the OIA plays in helping New Zealanders to realise their fundamental freedom to seek and receive information"; and if so, why was this issue not raised in the paper titled "Consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990: Education and Training Amendment Bill"?

Hon Judith Collins: Submissions on the Education and Training Amendment Bill will be considered by the Associate Minister for Education as lead Minister for the Bill. My officials reviewed the Bill for consistency with rights and freedoms affirmed in the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act, including the right to freedom of expression.
