54235 (2024). Hūhana Lyndon to the Minister of Forestry: For what reasons, if any, was native forest deforested since 2019?
Hon Todd McClay: I am advised that where native forest deforestation occurs, it is due to a variety of reasons including for development of infrastructure and residential uses. New Zealand’s native forests are protected from clearance, harvest and milling by a range of legislation, including the Forests Act 1949, the Resource Management Act 1991, and the Conservation Act 1987.
