54198 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Universities: How much in total, if any, was spent on renumeration of Crown appointees in the Minister's departments, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, for the 2024-25 financial year?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: In the 2024/25 financial year, I was responsible for making appointments to the governing councils of the eight universities and two of the three wānanga (Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and Te Whare Wānanga o Aotearoa). The current council fees for the eight universities and two wānanga are provided in the attached table. The total annual fee expenditure paid to the governing councils may be impacted by council vacancies and/or if there are changes to council fee levels over the course of the year. The total annual fees paid to the members of the governing councils of these institutions are disclosed in the institutions’ annual reports. Please note that the financial year for universities and wānanga runs from January to December. Therefore, council fees information has not yet been disclosed for the first half of 2025.
