54195 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister think that schools need more teaching space as their roll size increases?
Hon Erica Stanford: Yes, I do in some circumstances. It is the Ministry of Education’s (the Ministry) role to manage, maintain and grow the schooling network in response to current and forecast increases in the school age population. On some occasions, before providing additional property, the Ministry uses enrolment schemes to manage capacity at schools. In some instances, an infrastructure solution is required. This might include adding new teaching spaces to meet increased demand, and when these are required, establishing new schools. The Ministry is investing in approximately 300 roll growth classrooms and four new schools through Budget 24 to manage growth and demand.
