54160 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister for Infrastructure: Who will be involved in the decision making process of the Infrastructure Priority Projects list?
Hon Chris Bishop: Decisions on the Infrastructure Priorities Programme will be made by the Infrastructure Commission through a robust, independent process that has been approved by the Commission’s Board. The Commission will independently assess each proposal using the criteria laid out on the Commission’s website. A proposal doesn’t have to be a built piece of infrastructure – it could be a solution to avoid the need for building new infrastructure, like a congestion charge to reduce the number of cars on the road. The decision-making process will follow the Programme’s approved governance and sign out policy and will involve multiple quality assurance checks to ensure that assessments are consistent, rigorous, and robust. The assessments of all projects will be published on the Commission’s website and endorsed projects will be included in the National Infrastructure Plan.
