Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Lead Coordination Minister for the Government's Response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions: What advice and/or documents, if any, has the Minister or their office received since 27 November 2023 where the authorship is unknown, and it was only delivered in hard copy, listed by title and date, as at 26 August 2024?

Hon Erica Stanford: I have been advised that my office has received approximately 50 pieces of correspondence across all of my portfolios via mail where authorship is unknown. I have also been advised that this mail is retained with all other correspondence received via post by month of receipt in a filing cabinet. However, as it is not possible to respond to them they are not tracked through our correspondence tracking process. None of these pieces of correspondence have “titles” in the ordinarily understood sense and to require a staff member to separate these pieces of correspondence from other correspondence, determine which are immigration related, and assess and record their general topic would require significant collation. If the member would like to view a sample of unknown author correspondence my office would be happy to arrange a time with her.
