53770 (2024). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations: How much funding, if any, has been allocated to assist iwi and hapū in preparing and lodging Marine and Coastal Area (MACA) claims since 1 May 2024?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that the Office for Māori-Crown Relations - Te Arawhiti spent approximately $19 million on assisting iwi and hapū in making Marine and Coastal Area (MACA) claims between May and July 2024, the latest period for which figures are available. All active applications were made ahead of a statutory deadline of 1 April 2017, so no new applications are currently being lodged.
