Camilla Belich to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery: What coordination, if any, currently exists between the National Emergency Management Agency, GNS Science, NIWA, and MetService during emergency events involving seismic, tsunami, or weather hazards and how will these coordination arrangements, if any, change under the new Earth Sciences NZ structure?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that NEMA’s 24/7 Monitoring Alerting and Reporting Centre (MAR) and GNS and MetService’s 24/7 hazard monitoring and forecasting centres coordinate closely during emergency events. I expect that this coordination will become more effective under Earth Science New Zealand.
