53254 (2025). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: Will she guarantee that there will be no pause on the hiring of more professional firefighters as part of Fire and Emergency New Zealand's efforts to save up to $70 million a year?

Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised by Fire and Emergency New Zealand that there is a defined establishment number for professional firefighters. I have been assured that the organisational restructure change currently underway does not include any proposal to reduce the total number of firefighters or to leave vacancies unfilled. Both firefighters and communication centre personnel are not included in this change.
