53223 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: Is the Minister confident that primary school teachers have the knowledge to teach the content stipulated for Performing Arts in the draft arts curriculum; if so, why?
Hon Erica Stanford: As with all curricula, there will be a range of knowledge across the profession. This is why a knowledge rich curriculum is essential. The draft Arts curriculum clearly identifies, in greater detail than the current curriculum, the disciplinary knowledge for primary Performing Arts and links that knowledge to evidence-informed teaching practices. A year-by-year sequence supports all teachers, who come with a diverse set of general skills across all learning areas, by providing the clarity needed to design meaningful programmes of learning. The draft Arts curriculum clearly specifies the content to be taught, including what students are expected to know and do at each year level. Professional Learning Development to support teachers to teach the new Arts curriculum will be available when the final version of the Arts learning area curriculum is released.
