53169 (2025). Ingrid Leary to the Minister of Police: Was New Zealand Police consulted during the drafting of the 9 November 2025 “Action Plan to Combat Methamphetamine Harm”; if so, what operational initiatives were approved and what are their expected delivery dates?

Hon Mark Mitchell: Police was consulted regarding the drafting of the “Action Plan to Combat Methamphetamine Harm”. The following operational initiatives were approved: • New offshore liaison positions and increase collaboration with international partners focused on disrupting and preventing drug exports to New Zealand and the Pacific at their source. In accordance with diplomatic protocol, approval from the relevant governments is required. These initiatives are expected to be operational within three to six months from the announcement subject to relevant governments’ approval • Additional money laundering team to increase Police’s ability to disrupt organised crime groups. The additional team is expected to be operational within three to six months from the announcement • Funding for the Resilience to Organised Crime in Communities work programme, which combats the harms of meth and organised crime through community-led responses to the harms and drivers of organised crime. This funding enables the continuation of the existing work programme until December 2026.
