53114 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: Who, if anyone, contributed to the recent maths curriculum update; listed by name or organisation?
Hon Erica Stanford: Writing of curriculum content is undertaken by Ministry of Education (the Ministry) staff, with support and input from external experts and organisations. While this includes input from teachers, universities and external organisations, the Ministry retains full ownership of the curriculum and is committed to making sure it reflects our national context and values.
The names of individual experts that have contributed input, advice or knowledge to the Ministry, and those who have undertaken reviews of draft content, are withheld to protect their privacy.
The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) Coherence Group review and provide feedback on the curriculum as a whole to ensure the direction, cohesion and consistency of the curriculum products against the design criteria. A list of these members is available on the Ministry’s Tāhūrangi website: https://tahurangi.education.govt.nz/our-story
I am advised that the Ministry also engaged Learning First to provide advice to support the development of the strengthened national curriculum.
Their insights help to ensure the curriculum is aligned with those used internationally, while remaining tailored to the needs of New Zealand learners.
