53102 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Lead Coordination Minister for the Government's Response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions: How many, if any, historic claims of abuse in care lodged on or after 9 May 2025 have been setttled?
Hon Erica Stanford: From 1 May 2025 to 30 September 2025, 611 claims were settled. This number excludes Ministry of Health. The number of claims settled between 1 May and 30 September including the Ministry of Health will be available by 19 December 2025.
Statistics for the next quarter period from 1 October to 31 December 2025 will be available in February 2026.
This is the total number of claims settled during that period. Providing a response only for claims lodged since 9 May would require a manual review of each claim to see when it was lodged. This would remove staff from their core roles in the redress system which would not be in the public interest. However, given that the two largest redress agencies (MSD and the Ministry of Education) have significant backlogs of claims very few of the settlements will relate to new claims lodged after 9 May.
