53097 (2025). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality: Was any cost-benefit or other impact report done on the funding of the Michelin guide for New Zealand; if so what was the return on investment (or other metric showing a benefit)?
Hon Louise Upston: Tourism New Zealand has determined the following potential impacts of New Zealand’s inclusion in the Michelin Guide programme:
- Up to 36,000 incremental annual additional arrivals from our core markets (US, China and Australia) and India from 2026/27
- Annual incremental increase in visitor spend of $185 million per annum
- Broader tourism and hospitality sector impact through anticipated increased length of stay, attraction (and retention of) hospitality industry talent, investment in the culinary sector, development of additional tourism product and higher food and beverage margins.
