Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What has been the total cost to Kāinga Ora and local councils of security services, maintenance, and vandalism repairs at vacant social or pensioner housing units for each financial year since 2017/18, broken down by territorial authority?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that it does not centrally record the information requested for its vacant properties. To calculate the costs to the level of detail requested, Kāinga Ora would have to divert personnel from their core duties to provide the information sought by the Member. In accordance with Speaker’s Ruling 210/6, I consider that the time and expense of answering the Member’s questions is not in the public interest. I am not responsible for council-owned properties. Local authorities and council-controlled organisations are excluded from registration as a Community Housing Provider (CHP).
