52571 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: Is the Minister considering implementing modern
slavery legislation as recommended by report 'The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme in Aotearoa New Zealand: A Human Rights Review' and if so when and if not why not?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Work on specific legislation regarding modern slavery in supply chains is currently paused while the Government focuses on its current priorities. Decisions on this legislation will be made in due course. The Government already has guidance that supports businesses to identify and address the risk of modern slavery in supply chains. Additionally, as mentioned in the report, legislation and policies are already in place to address domestic instances of human trafficking, forced labour and slavery.
