52528 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Justice: What advice, reports, briefings, or any other documents, if any, has the Minister received related to the timeline of introducing citizen’s arrest Ministerial Advisory Group for Retail Crime, by date and title?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I have received comprehensive advice from the Ministry of Justice relating to the introduction of amendments to arrest and defence of property provisions in the Crimes Act 1961. The Cabinet paper relating to these amendments has been proactively released on the Ministry website. A briefing titled ‘Crimes Amendment Bill: Agreement on scope and timing’ was provided to my Office on 4 February 2025. I believe it would prejudice the orderly and effective conduct of government decision making processes to release the titles of further papers at this time.
