52508 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Biosecurity: How many jobs, if any, will be directly created by Plant Health & Environment Capability Laboratory?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised there are 10 full time equivalent (FTE) Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) staff employed on the Plant Health and Environment Capability Programme currently. Other MPI staff provide specialist support as required. I am advised that an additional five FTEs will be required for MPI to manage functions relating to being an owner/operator of the new Plant Health and Environment Laboratory. In addition, construction of the new facility is expected to create and maintain a large number of jobs across the design and construction sectors.
