Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that NZTA contracts projects out to other organisations to deliver, who may also sub-contract aspects of the project. NZTA does not require organisations to provide details of the number of employees as part of the procurement process, as this is up to the contracted organisations to manage within project budgets. However, the Infrastructure Commission suggests that each $1b of infrastructure investment per year equates to approximately 4,500 jobs. Exact numbers change over the lifecycle of a project, with the number of jobs increasing as the project nears completion.
