52426 (2025). Lan Pham to the Minister for Biosecurity: How many, if any, job roles have Biosecurity NZ disestablished since 2023?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: As part of the Ministry for Primary Industries’ (MPI’s) ‘Improving our Efficiency” process in 2024, Biosecurity New Zealand had a net reduction of 108 FTE positions, of which 79 were vacant. MPI did not make any reductions to the delivery of direct frontline services and statutory roles, including biosecurity teams at the border. Since the 2024 process was implemented, Biosecurity New Zealand’s FTE has increased by 56.5 FTE, with the majority of this growth attributable to investment in additional frontline roles.
